How do we taste?
In addition to our commitment, we would like to emphasize professionalism and thoroughness when we discuss our main topic: wines. We would like if our work reflected passion as well as love and respect of wines. These are our guiding principles when it comes to wine tasting.
Our editorial office regularly gets in touch with wine experts and wineries in order to enlarge the database of wines in accordance with the changing topics. We taste the wine samples obeying the professional technical rules, yet in a different way from the traditional. This new approach aims at gaining a broader audience than before. First of all we would like to gain a broader audience for the wines and not for ourselves.
Our guiding principles in wine tasting:
- we pay attention to professional circumstances, like proper wine temperature and glass variety
- we taste blind exclusively
- our tasting groups consist of a minimum of five or six people
- we spend at least 8-10 minutes on tasting a wine sample to be able to make a really detailed wine description
- we taste only 12 wine samples at the same time in order to be as precise as possible
The evaluation of the wine
We evaluate wines according to the internationally recognized 100-point system. Up to July 2015 evaluations were made on a 1-5 scale and appeared on the website. Since then we changed to a 1-10 scale making it easier for readers to have a basic expectation about the category of the wine at a glance while a more differentiated point system is provided. On the other hand, these points can only guide readers; they reflect the state of the tasted wine at the moment of tasting.
Besides, in the descriptions we highlight the most important qualities of wines and complete the well-known expressions with more delicate adjectives or short explanations occasionally so that they could be understandable without previous knowledge.
Publication of wine descriptions
We ask the wineries to provide a datasheet about the wine in order to provide our readers with more information. In this unique way everybody can immediately be informed about the way of wine making, the proposed storing time, moreover the winemaker.
We provide the submitted wine with several opportunities for publicity:
- detailed description in the Borbár section of the website
- on the main page of the Vinoport.hu and on the subpages too, the pictures and names of the tasted wines from the last one year appear randomly
- in our periodical newsletter called Borbár our description and photo of the wine is sent out
- in the Hét Bora section
The above listed opportunities for publicity are free of charge and in this way they serve the best interests of consumers and wineries at the same time. Other highlighting opportunities can be found in the Vinoport Médiaajánlat.
Should you have any further question or would you like to send a sample for us, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
